Relationship & Reading
“The power of mission is at the heart of our Christian Faith! The Joy2Read program is an opportunity to connect volunteers of faith in the states to children of faith in China, Honduras & Korea. It is our hope that the relationships formed through reading and fellowship will build a true Koinonia. We deeply appreciate your willingness to participate and pray that God will do wonders!”
Today's online tools allow readers and their reading buddies to enjoy books together and interact with the texts and pictures in a meaningful way even from afar, with a wide variety of colorful engaging ebooks at our fingertips. Reading regularly--whether online or with physical books--has immense benefits for young learners. Reading 20 minutes a day has been found to produce dramatic gains in students' vocabulary acquisition and reading scores. The more a learner reads, the stronger their reading skills become.
A child's growth and development in life and in reading are both deeply rooted in relationships. Opportunities for social interaction surrounding reading and shared reading experiences strengthen learners' reading practices and abilities and can help cultivate a lasting love of reading. In a caring one-on-one relationship with their reading buddies, students can interact, be heard, open up, and speak up in a safe environment supportive of their learning.
